NPD July 2016 Report: Grand Theft Auto 5 Tops Charts

But Overwatch isn't far behind.

The NPD Group has offered its monthly report and revealed the best-selling titles of July 2016 for the United States. Grand Theft Auto 5 takes home the glory this month with Overwatch in second place but it was noted that digital PC sales hadn’t been figured into the equation for the latter.

However, the ranking does account for both digital and physical sales across all platforms. Blizzard is just the exception in this case.

NPD analyst Sam Naji also noted that, “Spending declined by 30 percent versus last July due to a 10 percent decline in unit sales and a 22 percent decline in the average price. Spending on portables increased by 23 percent, but this was offset by a 37 percent decline in spending for consoles. Total spending came to $141 million, a decline of $61 million compared to July 2015.

“After 33 months since the launches of the PS4 and the Xbox One, the combined cumulative hardware sales for these two consoles exceed the sales of their predecessors by 41 percent at the same point of their lifecycles.”

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens was in third place this month followed by Monster Hunter Generations (also not including digital sales) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
