The NPD has released its October 2013 report and revealed that that software saw a year-on-year increase of 10 percent across all sectors for a total of $495.1 million. This was thanks to Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V and Game Freak’s Pokemon X & Y. GTA V managed to sell about 1.1 million units in the month while Pokemon’s portable sales assisted with the increase.
Hardware sales saw an 8 percent drop year-on-year for $171.7 million but portable saw a year-on-year increase, with the 3DS beating the Vita to be the best selling portable for six months now. The Xbox 360 topped the home console charts with 166,000 units sold.
The best-selling games for October across all formats include GTA V, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Battlefield 4, Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, NBA 2K14, Skylanders Swap Force, Lego Marvel Super Heroes and WWE 2K14.
