Octopath Traveler Sequel Being Discussed, No DLC Planned

I’m sure that comes as a shock to most of you.

This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one in the wake of the success that Octopath Traveler experienced, but sequel for the game is already being discussed at Square Enix. Speaking to Famitsu magazine (translation via RPG Site), Square Enix’s Tomoya Asano, who led development on Octopath Traveler, confirmed that discussions regarding a sequel have begun, though obviously, he wasn’t willing to share more just yet.

“As for a sequel, we still cannot say anything concrete yet, but we’ve just started talks on how it ought to be,” he said.

He also reiterated something that Square Enix had already said prior to the game’s launch– that it will have no DLC. The game, he said, had been conceived of as a complete product, and it had been decided ahead of time that no DLC for it will be released. The success of Octopath, it seems, has not changed that, though he did leave the possibility of those plans changing later.

“Regarding paid DLCs, we had decided from the beginning not to create them, so there are no plans right now,” he said.

Octopath Traveler is out now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
