Octopath Traveler Tops Software Charts in US in July

Octopath Traveler has beaten even GTA 5 this month.

The NPD Group has released its charts for the top selling software in USA for the month of July, and, much like in the rest of the worldOctopath Traveler managed to top charts, ending up as the #1 selling game across all systems last month.

The most important thing to note here is that its sales do not include digital data- so just at retail alone, Octopath sold more than any other game last month sold at retail and with digital sales thrown in combined. This represents the second month Nintendo exclusive software has topped charts- last month, it was Mario Tennis Aces.

Octopath, Nintendo games, and GTA5 (which was in at #2) continued to push software spending up year over year- spending in July was 5% up compared to this same period last year. Nintendo has been the top publisher of games all year, aided by new Switch hits and legacy Switch software, which continues to leg it out (six games in the top 20 are published by Nintendo), GTA 5, of course, is a monster, and Fortnite is pushing sales of games not rated M higher. Finally, God of War remains in the top 20, even four months after its release, continuing to display its uncharacteristically strong legs.
