Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be one among several first party Xbox One titles that will be getting enhanced next-gen releases when the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch on November 10. It’s been previously confirmed that the metroidvania platformer will run at 4K and 120 FPS on the former, but it seems the full story is even more impressive.
Taking to ResetEra, Ori and the Will of the Wisps director Thomas Mahler revealed that the game actually internally renders at a 6K resolution, and then supersamples it down to 4K resolution. According to Mahler, the effect it achieves isn’t comparable to anything else he can think of.
“Will of the Wisps on Xbox Series X has a mode where the game internally renders at a 6k resolution and supersamples it down to 4k,” he wrote. “I don’t think there’s going to be anything comparable in terms of image quality for some time.”
That leaves the question of how the game is going to look on the Xbox Series S, but hopefully, the frame rate on the weaker console will hopefully still be 120 FPS. For a game such as this one, that kind of a frame rate can be a major, major boost.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is currently available on the Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can read our review of the game through here.
