Overkill Acquires Payday Franchise Rights, Removing Microtransactions from Payday 2

Teasing announcement for E3 2016.

It’s a good day for Payday 2 fans. After a good year or more of dealing with microtransactions in Payday 2, developer Overkill Software has acquired the franchise rights from 505 Games and decided to remove all microtransactions from the title. The black market will now be free to everyone as of update 100 on Thursday, June 2nd.

It was also noted Payday 2 would be receiving new content and patches for the next 18 months at least, including changes to the game’s skill tree (which is coming this Thursday). Other black market and skill changes will be detailed in the coming days.

If that weren’t enough, a new teaser was released in time for E3 2016. Suffice to say, the Payday 3 rumours have already begun in earnest.

The Payday franchise has been going through quite a tough time what with the microtransactions and the poor ports of Payday 2 on the Xbox One and PS4. Things appear to be back on track for the most part though. What are your thoughts on these developments? Let us know in the comments.
