Activision Blizzard released its Q4 and full-year financial results for 2022 and provided an update on Overwatch 2’s performance. Along with player investment off to a “strong start,” it delivered the “highest quarterly figures for player numbers and hours played” in the series’ history.
Fourth-quarter in-game net bookings were also at the “highest level to date” for the series. Given that the title went free-to-play back in October with a Battle Pass and more microtransactions, it makes sense that revenue would be high. The team at Blizzard is working on “an ambitious slate of regular seasonal updates, including PVE content.”
It’s also developing “other ways for new and existing players to experience the Overwatch universe longer-term,” though it didn’t provide specifics.
Overwatch 2’s next season goes live today, adding new Battle Pass, Control Map, and new cosmetics to the store. New events will be available throughout the season, including a collab with One Punch Man and the return of the Overwatch World Cup. Check the patch notes for more details on balance changes and quality-of-life updates.
As for Season 4, it will do away with Map Pools and potentially add a new hero. Stay tuned for more details until then.
