Persona 5 Off To A Great Start In Japan, Sells 70% of Day One Stock

But can it outsell the original Persona?

According to latest Media Create Sales chart, Persona 5 made a killing when it was released in Japan last week. The latest JRPG entry in the popular series sold through 70% of its original shipment in Japan. It must be noted that this figure include both the PS4 and PS3 versions of the game and given the latter is still outperforming the former, we won’t be surprised if Persona 5 sells more on the PS3 than on the PS4.

The sales for previous Persona games are listed below. You can see that the highest selling entry in the series remains the first Persona game, but that may soon be replaced by Persona 5 by the end of the month.

[PS1] Persona {1996.09.20} — 201,147 / 391,556 [N/A]
[PS2] Persona 4 {2008.07.10} — 211,967 / 294,214 [89.67%]
[PS1] Persona 2: Innocent Sin {1999.06.24} — 170,577 / 274,798 [N/A]
[PS2] Persona 3 {2006.07.13} — 127,472 / 210,319 [87.61%]
[PS1] Persona 2: Eternal Punishment {2000.06.29} — 119,484 / 200,103 [N/A]

Persona 5 is now available on the PS3 and PS4 in Japan. The game will release in North America and Europe on February 14, 2017.
