Asian online retailer giant PlayAsia have added fuel to the fire. Rumours that the cryptic announcement of The Phantom Pain at 2012’s Spike VGAs was actually an announcement for a long awaited yet still unofficial Metal Gear Solid 5 have been running thick, and it looks like retailers have taken it upon themselves to annoy the crap out of us.
PlayAsia has listed Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain on its website. Two pages have been created for the (supposed) game, with the page for the US version of the game mentioning that its title is “tentative”, but the Japan page not mentioning any such thing.
It should also be noted that the Japan page mentions From Software, of all things, as the developer of the game, while the US page just mentions Konami. Kojima has agreed to outsource Revengeance to Platinum Games, but I don’t think he’d outsource a title as major as MGS5 to another developer, especially one that doesn’t seem to have much experience with games that focus on cinematic storytelling as much as Metal Gear Solid does, so this seems to be a long shot.
Take it with a pinch of salt, but I’m guessing you’d have done that without us having to tell you anyway.
However, it should be noted that there is a huge possibility that this is, after all a Metal Gear Solid game. Could it be viral marketing for Ground Zeroes? Seems to much trouble to go through, right? Could it be the inevitable Metal Gear Solid V? We did a complete analysis of the trailer, and it was full of MGS references Read our analysis here.
