Though the developer hasn’t made an official announcement, data on SteamSpy – which tracks the number of Steam owners for a game while accounting for variations – indicates that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold more than 7 million copies. We say it a lot and we’ll say it again – that’s absolutely crazy for a game that’s still in Early Access.
Peak player count today as per Steam data was 620,612, making it the most played non-Valve title and the second highest peak player count of all time on Steam. That’s right – it’s actually beaten Counter-Strike: GO’s peak concurrent player number. And at $30 per copy, Bluehole and creator Brendan Greene are raking in some serious revenue.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is still due for more content in the coming months including new maps. It will also release on Xbox Game Preview later this year for Xbox One and Xbox One X with exclusivity on the platform for the time being. A full release is currently slated for 2018.
