PlayStation 4 Lifetime Shipments Surpass 86 Million Units

PS4 software sales hit 75.1 million units sold for Q2 of FY2018.

In its latest financial results for Q2 of FY 2018, which details the period of three months ending September 30th 2018, Sony revealed that the PS4 had hit 86.1 million units shipped worldwide. The quarter itself saw 3.9 million consoles shipped, only 0.3 million down from the same period last year. The company also adjusted its forecast for the number of consoles shipped in fiscal year 2018.

Instead of 17 million PS4 units, the company projected 17.5 million units to be shipped. Fiscal year 2018 runs from April 1st 2018 to March 31st 2019, so we’ll know next year whether Sony hits its goal. However, the company adjusted its projections due to foreign exchange rates, the increase in PlayStation Plus memberships (34.3 million in Q2 2018, up from 6.2 million from the prior year) and game software sales.

Game software sales saw an increase of 5.4 million, for a total of 75.1 million units sold in the second quarter. Full game software digital downloads were at 28 percent of total sales, compared to last year’s 27 percent. Overall, even with rumours of Sony’s next gen hardware being revealed next year, the current generation continues to deliver for the company.
