Playstation 4 Will Steam Games, Designed to Use Current PS3 Titles

The Wall Street Journal has the scoop.

The Wall Street Journal has recently posted a story regarding Sony’s next Playstation console, dubbed the PS4. Apparently, with the new Gaikai cloud streaming services acquired by Sony, the PS4 will be able to steam games over the internet.

Even more interestingly is that this allows the PS4 to become backwards compatible with PS3 games, since the service is apparently designed to stream PS3 games. As always, with the PS4 expected to be announced on February 20th, the streaming service will also be simultaneously revealed.

Sony acquired Gaikai last year for $380 million; unlike other cloud streaming services, Gaikai was able to offer more visually intense games to be streamed over the net.

Take this with a grain of salt for now though admittedly if this were the case, it would allow Sony to keep costs (and size) of the PS4 down and also make a major push for its cloud streaming services. Time will tell, as always.
