PlayStation Mobile News is Coming “Sooner Than You Might Think” – Jim Ryan

"We are working on a number of models to open up mobile," says PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, echoing similar recent comments.

PlayStation has begun branching out. We’re seeing more and more first party PlayStation games beginning to make their way to PC, but like every other major publisher in the industry, Sony is also looking at the ever-growing mobile market, and they want piece of that pie as well. The company has said that it is exploring options for the mobile gaming space “to reach millions of gamers” beyond PlayStation– and apparently, we’ll be hearing more about that soon.

Speaking recently with Axios, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan commented on the matter again, explaining why Sony is now taking these steps. “The thinking here is that our IP portfolio is in such a strong state right now, it seems perverse to restrict enjoyment of it to our existing PlayStation community,” Ryan said.

And apparently, news on PlayStation’s expansion into mobile is coming sooner than you’d expect. “We are working on a number of models to open up mobile,” Ryan said. “You’ll see the first fruits of this sooner than you might think.”

Earlier this year, a job listing published by Sony suggested that the company was looking to “develop the mobile games strategy for PlayStation Studios and help build a foundation for future growth opportunities.” Read more on that through here.
