It’s been a silent success story—Pokemon GO’s resurgence in 2018, slowly chugging along in the background and becoming the game we were originally promised it would be. That resurgence, then, made quite a lot of money for Niantic along the way. To be specific, almost $800 million of it.
To be even more specific, Pokemon GO apparently earned $795 million in revenue last year, based on a Sensor Tower report. This was helped by the constant rollout of new features (last year, we got new Pokemon, trading, friends and community features, and PvP battling, among other things), and brings the total revenue for the game up to $2.2 billion since it launched in 2016.
As for last year’s revenue, $262 million of it (or almost a third) came from the United States, while $239 million came from Japan, with the rest of the world making up the remainder. Google Play also generated more revenue for the game in December 2018 than it had the previous year, which also had to have helped.
Pokemon GO is out on iOS and Android.
