In spite of so many apparent missteps made by Niantic recently, it doesn’t sound like there is any stopping Pokemon GO– new data from analytics firm Sensor Tower reveals that the game has now topped a staggering $160 million in revenue globally. Think about that number for a minute, also keeping in mind that many AAA games don’t even manage to make that kind of money that this mobile game is making. Also keep in mind that all of this money has been made via nothing but in app purchases, since the game is technically entirely free to play.
At the same time, it also doesn’t seem like players are getting bored of the game- Sensor Tower reports that player engagement with Pokemon GO continues to remain high, and that users are opening the app as many times now as they used to on average before (about six times a day). Considering the app is a month old now, this kind of success and retention is definitely very impressive.
Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android smart devices. Niantic have recently mentioned that they will be continuing to launch the game in other countries around the world. Hang in there, India!
