Nintendo was pretty late to the mobile game, since they were largely still in the dedicated hardware game in the handheld space when mobile gaming began to rise. Now that they’re in an in-between space of handheld and home console with the Switch, it seems they’re going more head-on into the mobile arena, and have so far been pretty successful. Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Mario, and the upcoming Mario Kart title all show they’re coming in with their biggest IPs. Of course, maybe the biggest is Pokémon, and according to DeNA, there’s more coming.
Pokémon GO was really the first mobile title attached to Nintendo that made a major impact in the market. It still is going strong, and according to a financial report by DeNA, another big Pokémon mobile title is coming to smartphones. They don’t reveal much about it, just that it will be released before March 2020, and will be a brand new title.
Pokémon GO still has major traffic, so it will be interesting to see if whatever DeNA and The Pokemon Company come up with can rival that kind of presence in the ever-fickle mobile market.
