Even though all mention of VR has seemingly been removed from its website, Microsoft’s Project Scorpio will still maintain its 4K promise. Answering fan queries on Twitter, Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed that Project Scorpio would be able to play games in native 4K.
Why is that important? Because for all the 4K goodness that PlayStation 4 Pro, we’ve seen many recent games upscaled through checkerboard rendering or other methods. 4K native games like Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and The Last of Us: Remastered exist but they’re few and far between.
Spencer also stated that, “Honest my focus is just on getting games ready to show and play. That will be the explanation. I’m confident in the results.”
We’ll see how that works out. Microsoft had a rather controversial start to the year when it cancelled Platinum Games’ Scalebound. Titles like State of Decay 2, Halo Wars 2 and more await though so stay tuned for more information in the meantime.
