Sony has revealed the Playstation Vita figures and they aren’t pretty–just 2.2 million sales worldwide and considering it’s been 5 months since the handheld came out in the west, this figure should worry Sony a lot, as third-party developers won’t develop for the system at this rate.
The 2.2 million figure was first reported by Playfront.de–and then Joystiq got a statement from Sony.
“The latest figures we’ve released for Vita (as of June 30th) are 2.2. million sales worldwide.”
This is a very sad event as this shows that people aren’t interested in it at its current price point and considering the fact that Sony reported 1.4 million units during their Q2 2012 reports, this suggests that the PSP contributed 1 million of that.
Sony had a good Gamescom showing and let’s hope people find the hardware attractive after that.
