PS3 gets officially certified in China

Are we an inch closer to the ban being lifted?

Now, if you ever go to China, you might see gaming consoles being sold in shops pretty commonly, but it’s actually not legal- there has been a ban on videogame consoles being sold in the country since 2000. Because China doesn’t want Chinese kids to waste their time playing video games- I’m not even kidding.

The PS3, though, has just been officially certified in China, according to a China Compulsory Certificate document (TechinAsia, via Kotaku). This was originally uncovered on some Chinese social networks, but it can be found in the official China Quality Certification website.

Now, this should be pretty clear- this does not mean the ban on PS3 in China has been lifted. While it gives gamers and aspiring gamers in China hope that they might one day get to legally own a gaming console, the ban is still very much in place.
