PS3 ‘super slim’ won’t be shown at GamesCom, $179 for 16GB model

According to sources of VG247, the PS3 super slim aka CECH 4000 won’t be shown at GamesCom as planned. The unit was revealed via FCC filings
and then a lot of images were leaked showing what type of console it would be – featuring 16GB flash memory and a top loading disc slot.

GamesCom starts on August 14 and Sony is expected to show some new stuff along with a price drop, but looks like that’s not on the cards for now. The reason given by their sources for a non-show is due to the stock levels being high. The current PS3 slim has a projected sales target of 12 million this fiscal year, and Sony has shipped a lot of them into the wild.

Stock clearance is something Microsoft did when shipping the Slim as well in 2010. The current PS3 is rumoured to be priced at $179 for the 16 GB model according to sources.
