PS4 and PS3 Sell 3.5 Million Units in Q1 FY 2105

Sony has been making it rain in April to June of this year.

Sony’s latest financial report for the first quarter of the 2015 fiscal year, which covers sales from April 1st to June 30th in 2014, and the copany has reported a 95.7 percent increase in revenue year on year for games. The company also revealed that it had sold 3.5 million units of the PS3 and PS4 collectively in this quarter. By comparison, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 sold only 1.1 million units.

Total sales generated by the Games & Network Services division was 257.5 billion yen (or $2.5 billion) with Sony attributing the growth to the PS4’s sales along with “a significant increase in network services revenues accompanying the launch of the PS4. Sales to external customers increased 101 per cent year-on-year.” The company has seen an operating profit of 4.3 billion yen ($43 million) in this quarter, which is spectacular when you consider the losses within the same quarter last year (16.4 billion yen or $164 million).

Thus far, Sony has been winning the war but can it compete with the Xbox One’s Autumn of exclusives? We’ll find out in the coming months.
