PS4 Crosses 112.3 Million Shipments Worldwide

PlayStation Plus subscribers hits 44.9 million while software sales are at 91 million.

In its recent financial results for the quarter ending June 30th 2020, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 4 has shipped 112.3 million units worldwide. That means 1.9 million units were shipped in the three month quarter. Though down from 3.2 million in the same quarter from last year, it’s still a testament to the console’s continued popularity despite its age.

Other interesting figures include 44.9 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, up from 36.2 million subscribers in the same quarter from last year, and 91 million units of software sold. Of the latter number, 18.5 million units were first-party games, which is up whopping 6.8 million compared to the previous fiscal year (no doubt due to titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima). Overall, 74 percent of software sold was comprised of digital downloads, up from last year’s 53 percent.

Overall, even with the PS5 releasing this holiday season, Sony continues to have a commanding lead in the console space. It announced another State of Play for August 6th which will provide updates on upcoming PS4 titles along with third-party PS5 games. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
