PS4 Exclusive Deep Down Might Still Be Coming

Capcom is going to need to do something with the license soon.

The last time we heard anything about the PS4 exclusive Deep Down, it was almost a year ago and we were given assurances from Capcom that the game was going to be getting some really good graphics. The company actually even talked about the fact that it wanted a 10 year lifespan. After that announcement, Capcom went quiet about the game and those who have been eagerly awaiting the game went back to wondering if the game was actually coming.

Now Capcom has renewed its patent on the game with the US patent office and that appears at least to be a sign that Capcom hasn’t given up on Deep Down completely. According to Dualshockers, the company has stated in its patent application that “the application states that the publisher “continues its efforts in conducting product and/or service research or development with respect to the allowed good and services.”

While some people will claim this is little more than a place holder in case Capcom ever does want to really invest its time and energy into Deep Down, it seems as if this kind of filing is actually quite binding. In order to keep a patent, especially one that is being refiled, the company has to show it’s attempting to do something with this license. With this fourth extension, Capcom will have the trademark until February of 2017. That would seem to mean the company needs to get cracking and get this game to market.
