‘Launch windows’ are become sad cop outs used by console manufacturers. In the last two years, we’ve seen Nintendo use the term to explain the delay of its 3DS games slated for launch, Sony use it to explain the delay of its Vita games slated for launch, and then, perhaps the most infamous usage of the term, Nintendo stretching its Wii U launch window by as much as a year to accommodate games like Pikmin 3 and Lego City Undercover within its ‘launch window.’
Sony’s revealed its plans for its own PS4 launch window, and they’re rather impressive, assuming a lack of last minute upsets or delays- thirty three PlayStation 4 games are planned for release by the end of December this year, reports Polygon. The list below is a partial look at those games, and only includes retail games, and no downloadable or indie games (a far cry from the ‘indie! indie! indie!’ focus of Sony’s Gamescom presser):
- NBA 2K14
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Skylanders Swap Force
- Need for Speed: Rivals
- Battlefield 4
- Madden 25
- FIFA 14
- NBA Live
- Killzone: Shadow Fall
- DriveClub
- Knack
- Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag
- Watch Dogs
- Just Dance 2014
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes
It’s a pretty impressive list, on the whole, though nothing screams ‘must buy!’ yet.
