PS5 and Xbox Scarlett Might Be Priced at $399, According to Michael Pachter

Looking at their specs, that'd be a pretty good price.

Initial specs for both, the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett (or whatever Microsoft eventually ends up calling it) have been revealed, and they’e both looking like very impressive machines. But many have been wondering just what the price of admission is going to be in light of those specs.

With both consoles boasting SSDs and internal hardware that probably doesn’t come cheap, are we looking at two consoles that’ll end up being a bit too highly priced? As per industry analyst Michael Pachter, that might not be the case. Recently, we asked him what he thought the prices for both consoles was going to be according to him considering their specs, and surprisingly enough, he says both of them might end up costing a pretty reasonable $399.

“The specs suggest $500 or so,” Pachter told GamingBolt when asked what he thinks the price for both consoles will be, “but my bias is that Microsoft will announce $399 and Sony will follow suit.”

Sony have previously said that the PS5’s price point will be “appealing” to customers in light of its feature set – which could mean anything, really – while Microsoft, too, have admitted that their console’s price is going to be an important factor for many. In Microsoft’s case specifically, the issue of pricing might end up getting sidestepped to an extent, if they do indeed release two variants for Project Scarlett – with one of them being a cheaper one – as the leaks have suggested.

It’ll probably be a while yet before we find out though, so we’re just going to have to wait and see.
