PS5 Controller Could Have Wireless Charging, Per New Patent

A handy new feature could be coming if this patent amounts to anything.

The next generation of consoles are due out at the end of this year (if they don’t end up getting delayed due to the coronavirus, which is looking like possibility). People are hungry for any little tidbit of information, especially about Sony’s PS5, which still largely remains a mystery. Well, we don’t have anything too official just yet, but a new patent could point to a handy feature.

A new patent popped up from World Intellectual Property Organization that mentioned wireless charging for Sony’s controllers. It describes an adapter that would snap onto a controller and allow it to be coupled with a wireless charging base. While the PS5 and DualShock 5 aren’t explicitly mentioned, it’s logical they would be part of this technology as well.

As always, patents are filed all the time by companies, and not all of them come to fruition. We also just recently got a patent for the DualShock 5 that mentioned Biofeedback, for instance, and who knows if something like that will happen. We’ll only know when the console and controller are officially revealed.
