Some real sci-fi sounding stuff here.

Right now, Sony’s next console is mostly a mystery, outside the logo and bits and pieces we’ve heard from developers and leaks. Sony is promising it’ll have a reveal comparable to past consoles (whatever that means), but there’s still plenty to speculate about until that day comes- and a new patent points to some weird stuff we could be looking forward to.

Sony filed a new patent, which you can check out through here. It’s for an optional add-on to the DualShock 5. It will collect data on your heart rate and sweat via ‘biofeedback.’ It’s not clear what this would be used for, exactly, though “the availability of head-mountable displays (HMDs)” is mentioned as a factor for the technology, so it being for something VR related is possible.

Of course, patents are often filed and re-filed by companies all the time that don’t come to fruition, so it may not mean anything. It’s hard to really parse what this thing could be without the context of the controller (or the console itself, for that matter). Hopefully, we’ll see those soon.
