The Xbox Series X may have dominated the headlines with its reveal at The Game Awards, but that wasn’t the only glimpse at next gen we got to see at the show. We also got to see Godfall, a self-styled “Looter-Slasher” developed by Couterplay Games and published by Gearbox, which has officially become the first game to be announced for the PS5.
With loot-focused mechanics and melee, skill-based combat, Godfall is looking quite interesting, while the small bit of gameplay we’ve seen so far also looks promising. The game gives off very Destiny-ish vibe, and sure, enough, it is also being designed as a primarily co-op experience. Speaking about the game on the official PlayStation blog, the developers confirmed that Godfall is being developed with co-op in mind (with upto 3 players in total). But it can, of course, also be played solo if you wish.
“Godfall’s designed from the ground up with co-op in mind,” wrote Counterplay Games CEO and the game’s creative director, Keith Lee. “You can play the entire game in solo, duo or trio. Your enemies will respond dynamically, mutating their behavior and attack patterns based on your group size. Our goal for co-op is stronger together, and fun for all.”
Recently, the developer also spoke about how Godfall is a PS5 exclusive because of the system’s improved controller and it’s “exceptionally powerful” solid state drive. Read more on that through here. Godfall will be a launch title for the PS5 when the console launches Holiday 2020.
