Pretty much the day since the PS5 launched, it’s been facing persistent stock issues thanks to its supply lines being disrupted, which in turn has impacted sales (same as pretty much every other console out there). Recently, however, it seems Sony’s console has seen a bit of an uptick in sales- in the UK, at the very least.
As per sales data provided by the Gfk (via GamesIndustry), the PS5 saw a 56% increase in its stock in the UK for the month of August as compared to July, which, of course, means that it’s also seen a significant bump in sales. In fact, it’s now become the UK’s best-selling console for 2022 so far, overtaking the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo’s device, meanwhile, saw a 4% increase as compared to the previous month as well, while Xbox Series X/S sold roughly similar numbers across the two months, coming in at third place behind Sony and Nintendo’s machines.
In total, almost 125,000 consoles were sold in the UK in August, which is a 20% increase from July. At the same time, however, year-to-date console sales in the region stand at nearly 880,000 units, which is down 36% from console sales in the UK at this time last year.
Earlier this year, Sony said that it was working on resolving the PS5’s supply issues as a priority, and was hoping to see higher sales in 2023. Read more on that through here.
