Ampere analyst Piers Harding-Rolls has suggested on Twitter that Sony’s consoles will continue to outsell Microsoft’s Xbox Series consoles by a significant margin in 2022. According to the research firm’s forecasts on the matter, PS5 is set to sell a total of 18 million units during this year while Xbox Series X/S are expected to sell around 9 million units, making the ratio of sales 2:1.
The fact that three of PlayStation’s juggernaut franchises are slated to release this year – namely with Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War: Ragnarok – definitely helps Sony’s case. That said, it’s definitely interesting that Sony is expected continue to dominate Xbox sales by such significant margin in terms of sales, even in light of recent Xbox acquisition of Activision Blizzard and recent sales updates from Microsoft. Of course, how that changes over the long-term (or if it does) is going to be interesting to see.
Of course, Nintendo Switch will once again dominate both of these current-gen consoles in terms of sales as per Ampere’s forecasts, which have predicted sales of 21 million units in 2022, largely aided by the recent release of the OLED version. Also, the fact that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is supposed to be coming out this year should also help Nintendo’s case.
