PS5 Will Play “99%” Of PS4 Library, Per Jim Ryan

The other 1% is for you to find.

So, is your head spinning today? If you were looking forward to the PS5 news I can only imagine that it is. We finally got the launch date and price for Sony’s PS5, something we’ve been waiting on for quite some time. But the showcase was bit odd as a lot of information was omitted for whatever reason. Such as the list of launch titles from Sony themselves, which was only revealed later. Oh, as well as the extent of the PS4 backwards compatibility.

Shortly after the PS5 Showcase, CEO Jim Ryan spoke with The Washington Post about the upcoming launch. While the showcase did highlight the new PlayStation Plus Collection, an offering of PS4 titles for Plus members, it wasn’t clear what degree the system would be compatible with its predecessor in general. But here Ryan confirmed that “99%” of the PS4 library will be playable on the PS5. He doesn’t detail what the 1% consists of, but I imagine it’s more to cover themselves when some very obscure indie title doesn’t work on the system. But, by and large, your PS4 library seems like it will carry over.

The PS5 is set to launch November 12th.
