PS5 Won’t Be Releasing In The Coming 12 Months, Says Sony

Don't expect to see the next generation of PlayStation in the immediate future.

Six years on from its launch, the PS4 is continuing to exhibit very strong sales, having sold 17.8 million units this past financial year to get up to a total of 96.8 million shipments worldwide. But even so, it is nearing the end of its life- the next generation of PlayStation is coming up soon, which has become clearer and clearer in recent days especially.

But not too soon. Speaking at Sony’s recent investors call, the company confirmed (via Wall Street Journalist tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki on Twitter) that the PS5 is not going to be out in the next twelve months of release, dashing any hopes that the console would be out in early 2020- which most likely means that Sony is either targeting an Autumn release, or one in Fall.

Sony recently did a soft reveal of sorts for the PS5, revealing and confirming many things about the upcoming new console- from its specs and the inclusion of an SSD to support for PlayStation VR as well as backwards compatibility. Read all about the console through the links.
