Quake Champions Business Model is “Really Hard Problem” – id Software

Free to play? Paid? Undecided at this time.

Id Software’s Quake Champions is looking pretty good at this stage with its first gameplay debuting at QuakeCon but the developer is still unsure about what kind of business model it will pursue. Will it be a paid release or free to play?

According to studio head Tim Willits when speaking to PC Gamer, it’s been a “really hard problem. So for us, we’re trying to figure out exactly what people want more of, and how they perceive it. And I’m not even trying to be cagey! It’s not like we know and just aren’t trying to tell anybody; we don’t know and we’re still trying to figure this out.”

Quake Champions will be exclusive to PC due to the 120 Hz and unlocked frame rate graphical settings which aren’t possible on the current crop of consoles (who’s to say about the next generation though?). What are your thoughts on it possibly being free to play? Let us know in the comments.
