Quantum Break Won’t Receive A Graphics Update Patch, Spencer and Remedy Comment On Game’s Resolution

The 720p drama.

On Saturday, news broke out that the hotly anticipated Xbox One/Windows 10 exclusive Quantum Break will run only at a resolution of 720p on the Xbox One- something that came as a bit of a surprise to a lot of people, who have been sold on Quantum Break over the last two years based on its promise as a graphical showpiece for Microsoft’s new console.

Upon hearing these reports, we decided to contact Remedy to confirm with them what the final game’s resolution on the Xbox One would be; however, Remedy refused to confirm or deny the reports, simply giving us a standard ‘no comment’ response.

Xbox fans, meanwhile, decided to take Phil Spencer up to task on Twitter, where they asked him why the game, which was billed as a graphical showcase for the Xbox One, will render at 720p on the console. Spencer, too sidestepped confirming (or denying) the final game’s resolution, saying only, “I encourage you to try game before you make any pre-judgements about what makes a game good or bad.” He added, “I think you’ll enjoy it.”

Amidst all this furore,a few reports popped up that claimed that the game will be getting an a day one patch, so the resolution could, in fact, change by the time most people got their hands on the game. However, this rumor was quickly shot down by Remedy’s Thomas Puha, who confirmed that while there will be a patch on day one, it will not be improving the graphics. In the process, they also studiously avoided confirming or denying the game’s final resolution.

Overall- what a mess. To hear, right before release, that the promised premier Xbox One graphical exclusive will be playing second fiddle to its allegedly eleventh hour PC port, has undoubtedly got to be disappointing for a lot of people. But, as usual it’s the gameplay that should come first and judging by pre-release footage, the game is shaping to be quite amazing.

Quantum Break launches on the Xbox One and on Windows 10 PCs on April 4.
