Ragtag Can’t Commit to Ray’s The Dead Running At 1080p/60FPS, Bigger Studios Also Having a Hard Time

Co-founder Chris Cobb also talks about Sony's indie approach.

The war over video game resolutions and frame rates rages on. We recently had a chance to talk to Ragtag Studio’s co-founder Chris Cobb, who is working on the PS4 version of Ray’s The Dead, an action-stealth-puzzler where you command your own zombie army. Given the number of indie titles hitting 1080p/60 FPS on the PS4, can we expect Ray’s The Dead to adhere to the same?

Cobb responded that, “We’d love for that to happen but can’t commit to anything just yet. Even the bigger studios with teams of 500 people are having a hard time hitting that target, so we’ll have to see where we are at when we get closer to launch.”

We also asked him how they  bought the game over to the PS4 and whether Sony’s open arms approach to indies the only reason behind the decision, to which he replied:

As for how Ray’s The Dead came over to the PlayStation 4 and whether it was only due to Sony’s open arms approach, Cobb stated, “It’s a variety of reasons. Yes, one of them is the very positive relationship we have developed with our Sony representatives, and their from-the-start enthusiasm for independent developers. In addition to that, the timing worked out well for us. We were already targeting a Steam release, but we also wanted to diversify by targeting one of the new consoles. The announcement of the PS4, and the announcement of Unity’s support for PS4 both came at just the right time.”

The release date for Ray’s The Dead is to be announced. Stay tuned for more details.
