Rare Open To Working With Other Developers On Their Classic IPs

Give us Platinum Games Battletoads please.

Regardless of their recently ended drought of working primarily on Xbox Avatars and Kinect focused games, the classic British developer Rare has a lot of beloved characters under their control that have unfortunately languished all but completely under Microsoft. While the star power isn’t quite Mario level, IP such as Battletoads, Perfect Dark and Conker have not shown their faces in years. We don’t talk about Banjo.

However, Craig Duncan, Studio Head of Rare, recently appeared on IGN Unfiltered, and made some interesting comments on the studio being open to collaborations. Rare could be interested in another company bringing back one of their babies. With the qualifier that the right pitch and the right people need to be involved, in order to avoid disappointing fans with a bad revival. “Rare is the guardian of Rare’s IP,” said Duncan.

The studio being open to the possibilities is exciting, and their insistence that it needs to be the right fit on all levels is comforting to say the least. Phil Spencer has made comments in the past about how Microsoft needs to up their first party game, and Rare’s back catalog could easily be a way to make their ecosystems far more attractive. With possibilities anywhere from Platinum Games’ Battletoads to 343i’s Perfect Dark, let us know your dream collaboration in the comments below.
