For a while now, reports have claimed that Rockstar is working on bringing Red Dead Redemption 2 to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with native releases for the current-gen consoles, and given how much sense a move like that would make, that hasn’t ever really come into doubt. Now, however, it seems like that might not happen after all.
Recently, prominent Rockstar insider Tez2 claimed that the company had shelved plans for remasters of the original Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4, with subsequent corroborations claiming that the same was being done so the company could focus on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.
It seems that it’s not just those remasters, but all ancillary projects that have been shelved. Tez2 recently took to the GTA Forums and claimed that Rockstar has also cancelled the aforementioned PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. Meanwhile, an “enhanced” version of the Rockstar Editor has also seemingly been halted.
Last week, Rockstar announced that it would no longer be releasing major updates for Red Dead Online going forward in order to be able to focus completely on Grand Theft Auto 6, so it definitely seems like the company is going into all-hands-on-deck mode. Whether this means that some of the aforementioned shelved ideas will be revisited down the road remains to be seen, but it’s clear that we shouldn’t hold our breath for any of them for the foreseeable future.
