Microsoft’s next gen home console will be six times as powerful as the Xbox 360, and 20% more powerful than the Wii, according to a report at IGN. MS has decided to use a year old processor in their next console rather than the current version, if these reports are accurate.
“Sources close to the project” have told IGN that Microsoft will be using a Radeon 6000 card GPU, rather than the more advanced 7000 series. The 6000 series is one year old, and derived from the Radeon HD 6670 and supports DirectX 11, 3D, 1080p and multidisplay output. The chip can be bought for less than £50.
The report also claims that the Xbox 720’s raw graphics processor will have “six times the processing power” of the Xbox 360 and “20 percent greater performance” than Nintendo’s upcoming next-gen system, Wii U.
According to the report, the next Xbox will ship to retailers sometime in October or November next year, 2o13.
Recently, Microsoft said that they have no plans to announce the next Xbox at E3 as of now. They could announce it at some other event, or maybe they’re just lying and will announce it as E3 anyway. People from this industry do that a lot (*cough*David Jaffe*cough*).
