Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has received tons of praise over the last few years with Yakuza releases. The departure of studio head Toshihiro Nagoshi for NetEase in 2021 surprised and worried a lot of people over the future of the studio- however, it seems everything is on the right track, with the new team assuring fans that there’s plenty to look forward to.
In an interview with Japanese site Denfaminico Gamer (via Tojo Dojo), studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama assured everyone that the team is hard at work on its new projects, while giving updates on what they are up to. Yokoyama commented that even though the only thing they can publicly talk about right now is Yakuza 8, the team is currently working on multiple unannounced titles that will “surprise” everyone.
He said: “The only one I can talk about right now is Yakuza 8, but we have a lot of unannounced titles that are currently in development. At some point I’ll be able to discuss some things that I think will surprise you all, so look forward to that.”
Back in November, Yokoyama said that the team is currently working on several unannounced games. Seeing that multiple games are in development, maybe a new entry in the Judgment series is also in the works. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what the team is working on.
