Rocket League Gets Review Bombed, But Steam’s New Reviews Policy Holds Up

People aren’t happy, but Steam’s new review policy seems to work pretty well.

Last week came the surprise announcement that Epic Games have bought Rocket League developer, Psyonix. The news itself was pretty shocking, but tucked inside it was another bit that really upset people, and that was that the popular Rocket League would be removed from Steam once it released on the Epic Games Store later in the year. The claim originally came from a statement to the media by Psyonix, but was later walked back on by Epic Games and Psyonix, saying there were no “announced” plans to remove the game from Steam (worth noting, though, that neither entity has yet to explicitly deny that the game will be removed from Steam in the near future). Predictably, a lot of online fans aren’t too happy about this, and are taking to Steam reviews to voice their distaste.

Just as it happened with the Borderlands series, Rocket League has been subjected to lot of review-bombing since the announcement, and thanks to the vague, still unclear, future of the Steam version of the game. Ranging from just old fashioned cursing, to creatively crafted middle fingers, it’s a variety of ways for anger being displayed. Steam’s new review policy seems to be holding up pretty well, though. The game still maintains a strong rating despite the bombing, with an asterisk beside it indicating a lot of “off topic” reviews that need attention. Which is a nice way to put it, I guess.

Rocket League is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. We’ll keep you updated on what’s happening with the PC version of the title as the story develops.
