Rumoured NPD April Sales: Xbox 360 On Top Again, Wii and Wii U Gap Closing

Could the Wii U finally be coming into its own?

Rumours have already begun circulating about how much each console sold in April in the United States, and though the NPD still hasn’t released its official report, that hasn’t stopped several speculations from going around.

In fact, one of those guesses came online and outright asked Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter about it on Twitter. It indicated that the Xbox 360 had reigned supreme yet again with 130,000 units sold while the PS3 remained in second place with around 100,000 units sold. And Pachter’s response?

The interesting part is the Wii U, which sold close to 40K units but was still outsold by its predecessor the Wii. However, the distance between the two is closing and it wouldn’t be long before we see Nintendo’s next gen console pushing ahead. The coming months will also see new releases in the form of Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and more.

As for the Xbox 360, we’ll see if the huge announcement that Microsoft has in store at E3 2013 will play a part in ensuring it stays on top.
