We’ve know for a while that on Xbox Series X, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will feature both 30 FPS and 60 FPS options, but what the upcoming open world horror shooter will target on the weaker hardware of Xbox Series S in terms of performance has been an unanswered question. And though we still don’t know what frame rate the final build of the game on the console will tout, GSC Game World’s lead producer Slava Lukyanenka has offered at least some idea of what to expect.
Speaking in a recent interview with Wccftech, after reiterating that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will have 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes on Xbox Series X (with resolution targets for both modes still unconfirmed), Lukyanenka also touched on the Xbox Series S version, confirming that it is currently run at about 35 FPS. As per Lukyanenka, however, that isn’t necessarily going to be the final number, with GSC Game World still working (with assistance from Microsoft) to further optimize the game.
“On Xbox Series X, we have two available modes,” Lukyanenka said. “One of them is Performance Mode, where S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is running with 60 FPS and slightly different graphics than in Quality Mode, which looks super awesome with all the reflections and high-resolution textures, but runs at 30 FPS. We are trying to achieve a similar experience on Xbox Series S by combining these two approaches. So far, we have it at 35ish FPS on the Xbox Series S, but we still have space to optimize.”
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is due out on November 20 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
