It’s hard to believe that Sega has been on this crazy ride for 60 years now, but they have. The company was once a platform holder, releasing competing hardware against Nintendo, and then later Sony until transitioning quite successfully into a third party publisher after several high profile failures. Now, it seems it’s time to celebrate their time in the sun, and maybe tease for something in the future.
Sega launched a website focused around their 60th anniversary (the company was established June 3rd, 1960), that you can see here. There’s nothing there just yet, but you can access another part of the website with photo teasing something for March 25th. Many have noted that the picture seems to invoke Segata Sanshiro and that section of the website seems to be named after him. If you’re not familiar, Segata Sanshiro was a fictional character that Sega used to market the Sega Saturn in Japan.
It’s curious to see what they could be teasing here, whether it’ll be an actual game or something else just as a fun celebration. We’ll just have to wait and see, but either way, 60 years is quite the run.
