Sega’s run as a console manufacturer was tumultuous and marred with a whole lot of consoles that ended up failing, mostly because of how ahead of their time they were- but when they were at the top, they were practically unmatched.
And they were on top with their second console, the Genesis (known as the Mega Drive in Europe, South America, and Japan). The Genesis has some of Sega’s most beloved games of all time, and was the console that, briefly, made Sega’s name synonymous with gaming as a whole.
Now, Sega will be bringing games from it over to modern consoles. Featuring games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, ToeJam & Earl, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and many more, the Sega Mega Drive Collection will be launching for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, bringing over 50 Genesis classics to the modern gaming audience (why the Switch was omitted from this announcement is a mystery to me).
It launches on May 29- you can check out its debut trailer for yourself below.
