Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Enjoys Steam’s Biggest Launch In 2019

FromSoftware's stealth-action title enjoys a launch almost as big as Dark Souls 3's.

It’s no news by this point that millions have been excited to get their hands on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware’s latest stealth-action title. All the buzz surrounding the game has clearly paid off, with it having gotten off to a strong start, bringing out the masochism in a large number of people the way only FromSoftware games can.

As per Steam charts, since its launch on Friday, Sekiro has had a peak concurrent player count of 124,334 players, and at the time of writing, currently sits at 94,470. In doing so, it has become Steam’s biggest launch of 2019, overtaking Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 and establishing a pretty significant lead. It is also, more or less, at the same level as Dark Souls 3 was back when it launched in 2016, lagging behind by roughly 5,000 players.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has launched to widespread overwhelming acclaim. It currently sits at 92 on Opencritic. In our own review, we awarded it score of 9/10, calling it “a brutally unforgiving game that demands constant attention from its players”. You can read our full review through here.
