Shenmue 3 at 60 FPS “Might Be Too Difficult” – Creator

Dev team "currently testing" Unreal Engine 4.

A progress update for Ys Net’s Shenmue 3 will be coming next week, with testing shots on the way, but creator Yu Suzuki recently spoke to DualShockers about it might be too difficult to hit 60 FPS.

“For the moment I’m thinking about 30 frames per second. 60 might be too difficult, but I’m not sure yet.” The team is “currently testing the Unreal Engine 4” and it was chosen specifically for its “portrayal of colors, the shaders and the rendering engine.

“They’re close to the image I have for the world of Shenmue 3. Unreal Engine 4 allows me to portray what I think the humidity and the smell of the world should be. If you see a scene in the desert, you will feel the dry air of the desert. I feel that I can bring those abstract qualities of climate and atmosphere to life using Unreal Engine 4.”

Shenmue 3 is currently in development for PS4 and PC, with a planned release in December 2017. Thoughts on the game’s status and whether it will actually hit 60 FPS in the end? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
