Next year, it is once again time to return to the detective work of Sherlock Holmes with Chapter One from the acclaimed Frogwares studios. In many ways, their take on the iconic detective has become something of the definitive one on the gaming side of things, and now we get to see something of the sleuth’s past. And today we also got an introduction to the world of crime he must navigate.
In an extensive deep dive, which you can see below, the developer walks you through the game’s world. The game will be a single player detective game, much like the other titles in the Frogwares Shelock Holmes series. Its main quest is said to take roughly 15 hours, but also lots of side quests and side content that you can stretch out to easily 30-40 hours. The combat will be more refined here, and while you can’t just gun down people willy nilly, if you find yourself in a gunfight, you’re more than equipped to deal with it. There also will be more customization than previous games, so you can deck your Holmes out just a bit more.
They say this game is not planned to be a games as service title, and is in fact a standalone single player title. It’s currently in pre-alpha and they plan to do another deep dive on the game’s detective gameplay either at the end of this year or beginning of the next. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will release on 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. We sat down with the developer as well to talk about various aspects of the game, and you can read that in full through here.
