If there’s an opportunity to get a game for free or cheap, you can bet people will take advantage of it. Origin has local pricing for most games and since PC games cost really cheap in India, the digital pricing on the service is similar too.
However, this can lead to problems as people from other countries can use a VPN or Indian address to get the game for a much better price.
SimCity was available for Rs. 1,499 on the Indian store and it costs $60 in most countries, so you can see why the game was tempting to many. It doesn’t help if people on popular forums such as NeoGAF and other sites teach other people how to exploit it.
EA India has posted an update on their official Facebook page regarding this issue:
“Due to a technical exploit that is being abused by some users, EA has had to temporarily remove SimCity from the Origin Store in India,” the post read.
“We’re working to make the game available to you once again as soon as possible. In the interim, customers in India can still pick up a copy at retail stores.”
While the local pricing is great for people who actually live in India, such exploits will make sure gaming will remain an expensive hobby for many.
