While there has been a lot of disruption in the PC market over the last two years (specifically with the Epic Games Store and its unprecedented use of third party exclusives), Steam is still the number one way most people experience PC gaming. Also, the Chinese gaming market is on the rise. Those two things are coinciding, it seems, as a new survey on language use on Steam shows.
In a voluntary survey conducted by Valve in December of last year, it came to light that the number of Simplified Chinese users spiked a whopping 14.4% from the month prior, giving it a 37.9% share, which is the highest of any other language. English dropped 6.6% to 30.4%.
No information is out there about how many users were part of the survey, so it’s hard to say for sure what kind of sample pool we’re drawing from, but either way, the Chinese gaming market seems to be growing at a pretty steady pace, and they, like most of us, are using Steam pretty regularly.
