Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Looks Sweet

But still no physical copy of the game.

Sega had been teasing a collector’s edition for their upcoming Sonic Mania, the new side scrolling, 2D Sonic platformer that they announced earlier this year for a 2017 release in honor of Sonic‘s 25th anniversary, on Twitter recently. And now they came through with the announcement of this Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition, at least for North America, which seems to be pretty damn sweet.

Included in the package is a Sonic statue placed atop a miniature Genesis acting as the base, which can even make the classic Sega startup sound. You also get a Genesis Sonic cartridge cast, with a ring embedded into it, and a metallic Sonic Mania collector’s card, which comes with a unique download key for the game. All of this comes packaged in a special Collector’s Edition box.

Notably, however, you are still not getting any physical copy of the game, so the $70 you are paying would all be for the physical goodies. While I am sure that that will disappoint a fair few, I am also sure that there are other Sonic fans out there who will be delighted with this offering, as well.

Sonic Mania launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.
